This question <46|70> overall <49|51> Eddie: <49|159>.
Question 10: Name some elements of wealth which even in modern capitalist society cannot be bought and sold.
[50] Eddie: Wed, 11 Jan 1995 13:28:09 -0700 (MST) Some of the elements of wealth which can't be bought or sold are water, air, and life to name a few examples. However, some people would sure love to sell these types of elements.
Hans: One's life is not an element of wealth. Are you thinking of the destitute beggar who says to himself: at least I am alive?
[50] Eddie: I was thinking anyone's life is a form of wealth. I think life is a form of wealth that should not be taken for granted. It may not be a form of wealth in that it can't be bought or sold but as a use-value I think it is the most valuable commodity that anyone can attain. Do you not regard life as a form of wealth??
Hans: In my view, wealth is natural or man-made resources, and by extension also social structures, which help expand what humans can do. Living in a society which respects life and individual freedom can be considered a form of wealth, but life itself is not wealth. Life is that what is being enhanced by wealth.
