This question <571|112> overall <96|98> Sprewell: <992|98>.
Question 54: Is labor the only source of use value? of value? (“Value” is here the property which makes things exchangeable.)
[97] Sprewell: No, labor is not the only source of use value. Nature also provides a certain amount of use value. It does this by providing the raw materials from which commodities are produced. Labor provides the majority of use value by changing the form of natural matter, but not all of it. Labor, on the other hand, is the only source of value. Natural materials such as air, soil, natural meadows, etc. all have utility to man, but that utility does not come from labor. They are use values but not values. They become values when their form is changed through labor.
  Hans: Ok.
