Exam Question 66: What is abstract human labor? I want you to say what it is, not what its significance is in commodity-producing society! These are two different questions.
[31] Bogey: economic   Human labor could be defined as the acquired skill and the ability of any individual to perform certain functions whereby transforming the “use value” of a resource into a commodity. Abstract human labor refers to the expendible part of the labor performed by a human. Unlike the skill or talent that the labors might retain even after producing thousands of commodities. The abstract human labor is used up with each service peformed. In other words, the abstract human labor categorized the physical aspects or elements of the human. The brain, muscles, hands, fingers, legs, nerves etc. are being expended with each performance of labor. This expenditure of the human physical elements in the process of creating a commodity is what is known as the abstract human labor. It is refered to as abstract concept because one cannot see or feel the brain getting used up. We cannot use the same energy to produce a commodity. The energy utilized in performing a function is in other words used up and cannot be used again. But instead needs to create more energy to continue the labor process, hence the abstract human labor.
Hans: Good explanation in your own words of a not very easy topic.
