Exam Question 80: In the equation “20 yards of linen = 1 coat,” what is the difference between the left hand side and the right hand side?
[89] Bogey: economic   The difference between the left hand side and the right hand side is the fact that the right-hand side, ie. “20 yards of linen” is the middle (unfinished product) and the “coat” is the finished product or is now a commercial commodity which is ready to enter the market. The “20 yards of linen” is the middle product because even though it is the result of natural resource but it is still yet to be utilized to the maximum. We can also see that the “20 yards of linen” is or cannot be used simply in that form unless it is further processed to meet the demands of the market, ie. the people, which is the coat. Furthermore, we also see a difference in the fact that while producing the 20 yards of linen there is certainly a less complication as to the elements that contribute in producing the 20 yards of linen. On the hand in producing 1 coat, it is vital to make sure that the style and design of the coat is up with the fashion of this day. In other words there seems to be more elements that would contribute in producing the end result commodity, ie. a coat.
Hans: See my [90]. You missed something which I emphasized very clearly in the study materials.
