Marx always stressed that this change will not be automatic. It
requires action on the part of the working class. But their quantity
is an important source of strength. If there is something which harms
a great number of people (as, I would argue, capitalism is), then
there may be a backlash at some time. By the same mechanism,
something which benefits a great number of people will for this reason
have better chances to survive. All this is not automatic, there may
be other factors which thwart this tendency, but this principle is
active as an underlying tendency. It is a somewhat hopeful prospect
for the history of mankind. |
