The quote ‘standing on the shoulders of giants’ comes to mind. Marxian
thought, as far as I understand, views knowledge and learning as a social
activity. Society accumulates knowledge, and no one individual is
responsible for ‘new knowledge’, but rather we all owe each other and our
forebears. (Erich Fromm)
So your question is difficult. Could the skilled labour have any
effectiveness if it were'nt for unskilled labour? The architect designs
the house - but it must still be built.
What due you mean by ‘value’, here? Socially attributed value? I believe
Marx had a great deal of insight when he spoke of how little recognition
goes to the hands which actually build the abstract concepts which
skilled labour create. The architect will be cold and wet without the
construction worker. And then what value has his concept of a beautiful
new house? |
