Question 301: Thread 301
[57] KALISPEL: How to beat capitalism in less than 50 years? I would like to start a thread that will expose capitalist tendencies and give empowerment to members of the class at the same time. In the introduction of Karl Mark's book Capital it states that capitalism is unlikely to last another fifty years. Assuming that the author of the introduction was not underestimating the strength of the capitalist system we will see the “overthrow” of capitalism in most of our lifetimes. Me, I am too impatient to wait fifty years. How can it be done today.
The goal, of course, is to be rich. If you are rich then you get all the goods and can have leisure time and can also pursue intrinsic values which produce happiness. As Marx has stated, we have a right as human beings to develop personalities and follow what we believe is important. I am in no way advocating eating cakes all day in the shade of an apple tree. I am advocating the first law of any type of happiness and that is freedom. I am not a commodity. I am a human being with desires and wants. This thread I want to discuss the true nature of happiness and how to become truly free under capitalism in less than 50 years.
How to be rich. Nearly all “professional” jobs in society pay about the same. The range is from 25,000 to 35,000 dollars a year. Unskilled workers are paid much less and there are those who are in the “lucky” jobs can make around 60-100 thousand dollars a year.
Here's the thing. If you get married and have kids and want a house and a car and want to go to the movie once in a while your wages just will not allow you to save enough money to obtain capital. It is almost impossible and that is why few people have done it, in comparison with the rest of the population. Those who make the high salaries are few and most are in the upward parts of their careers. They are old. Why wait until your old to have cash and freedom? Then again most people never obtain much of either. There is a constant push and pull.
The way to get the most cash, of course, is to be the capitalist. You could start your own business. In this way your surplus labor power is not robbed and you can rob the labor power of others (let's not discuss the moral dilemmas of capitalism here. Let's discuss the how of it all). Once you start to get a lot of money you can hire skilled and unskilled workers to operate your capital while you go on vacation in the Bahamas with your family, of course there are a lot of bosses who can't do this a lot, but many can. I have never seen the owner of the company I work for.
Of course to get the capital to start the business you must obtain large sums of money. It is obvious that the standard wages 25-35 thousand dollars a year will not cut it unless your sleeping under a porch. So, what can you do? You can get in an illustious career. Top paid fields include lawyers, doctors, stock brokers, insurance, and real estate. These are some of the people who can actually start saving some cash to obtain capital.
Time is short, but I would like feedback on the “How” of dealing with a way to break out of capitalism on a personal level, not as a society. Please leave out moral implications. We can discuss that later on. Do you see loopholes in the system? Who do you know that has “made it” in capitalist society? I would appreciate anyone's comments.
