  [76] Hans: Rewrite Question 49   Just a brief point, Caren, about your [75]: You wrote that “the value must be put on something to get the use value”. It is generally right that labor must be expended to get use values, although some use values can be obtained without labor. But this labor does not need to have the social form of value-creating labor.   
  However, in capitalism your sentence becomes correct if one reverses it to read “use value must be put on something to get value”. The accumulation of value, i.e., congealed abstract labor, is the purpose, and use values are only produced because a “carrier” is needed for these values.
