Question 144: Describe the joint work of all commodities which is necessary to appropriately express the value of one commodity.
[59] Yikes: The joint work of commodities   Marx explains the simple form of value by equating one commodity to another “A” to “B” i.e., linen to a coat. He states that the inherent problem with this form of value is a arbitrary or accidental relationship of value.
To fix this problem we take one step forward by equating other commodities to “A” the linen for example we take a specific unit of measure weight, size etc and equate it to commodity “C” iron. Marx calls this the expanded relative from of value. He states that through this process every other commodity becomes a mirror of the linen's value. Now through this process this value shows itself as a congelation of undifferentiated human labor. It is for this reason that all labor is equal no matter what its form. The linen, by virtue of the form of its value now stands in a social relation with the whole world of commodities, and as a commodity becomes a citizen of that world.
Marx then tells us that the accidental appearance of value that can be found in the simple form of value is overcome because it can now be equated to the whole world of commodities.
This is how all commodities work together to express the value of one commodity overcoming the inherent problem with the simple form of value we can equate any commodity to another.
