Question 4: Can you think of things which are part of the riches of capitalist society but which are not produced for and traded on markets?
[5] Squeezy: In reponse to VonMises' comment about Captalism not creating a shortage of the world's water supply, I have to strongly disagree. Firstly what is causing the shortage in the world's water supply is the greed of this capitalist society. The big corporations are polluting the environment because of their want or need for greater profits, thus increasing global warming, which is a major factor in the depletion of the freshwater supply.
Also addressing the government regulation issue, even if market forces prevail it is simple economics that when supply goes down (considering ceteris paribus) price goes up. This in itself creates a shortage for most of the world's population. Already the supply of freshwater is a major concern in nearly all of the world's developing nations, so you are trying to say that letting capitalism prevail and the market continue that there is not going to be a major scarcity or lack of ability to buy water.
