Question 70: Regarding the question how to measure the quantity of value, Marx first gives the wrong answer and then corrects it. Why doesn't he give the right answer right away?
[39] Catfish: Wrong and the Right Answers.   Marx does not supply the right answers to the question as to how to measure value because he wants to emphasize that “the substance of value is equal human labor.” The lazy person is not supplying the same quantity or quality of labor as an industrious person. In the abstract, or ideal, all persons are offering the same effort, the same level of human labor in any process. When adding or subtracting fractions, one must find the common denominator. The same would apply to the concept of labor. In order to identify a quantity of labor, one must define the standard, or average of the labor between the lazy person and the industrious one. Then you could quantify the labor power of any person or group of persons.
