Question 68: Is it a character flaw to be lazy in an exploitive system?
[53] BigBird: Exploitation and the lazy guy.   After the clarification of question 68 by Hans [45], I believe that Marx viewed the reaction of laziness to an exploitive system as a character flaw. This laziness also perpetuates the exploitive system. Change in human behavior is difficult to achieve and in order to get enough people to revolt against the current sytem, many people would need to alter their behavior. It is easier for individuals to stay with the current system, even if it is an exploitive system. This reaction (or non-reaction as the case may be) is viewed as a character flaw. Humans tend to take the path of least resistance.
Although I agree with Oak [48], that people tolerate this exploitation in order to survive, their laziness in resisting the exploitive sytem is a consequence of their failure to revolt against the exploitive system.
Hans: I love it. Instead of saying laziness is immoral because one does not work enough, you are saying laziness is immoral because one arranges oneself with the system instead of revolting. Such a redefinition of morality is sorely needed!
