Question 78: Is it a character flaw to be lazy in an exploitive system?
[30] Hans: Laziness and greed--two sides of the same coin.   I liked Kaha's answer [23], but here are some additional nitpicking things I want you to think about. Kaha writes:
In an exploitive system, the worker obviously feels exploited, and would naturally not want to give their best, or in this case, become lazy.
Exploitation is also possible (and, indeed, it works much better) if those exploited are not aware that they are exploited.
I don't think that it is a character flaw of the worker, but a character flaw of the person or the company doing the exploiting.
Capitalism is an exploitive system, i.e., the whole economy is based on exploitation. In such a situation exploitation cannot be blamed on individual persons or companies. The economy would not function without exploitation. Even those who are exploited participate in the system and help make it work.
Now I am going to say something which you probably don't want to hear. We all have the responsibility to get rid of the system. We cannot just wait for the capitalists to become less greedy. The lazy worker and the greedy capitalist are two poles of the same system--we have to get rid of both. (See also my [2001fa:35] and BigBird's [2003fa:53].)
