This question <34|37> overall <34|36> Hans: <33|46>.
Question 43: Joseph, who lives in a capitalist society, regularly swaps his wife with the wife of his friend. Does this mean Joseph's wife has exchange-value in capitalism?
[35] Hans: No market for wife-swapping.   BonzoIsGod's answer [34] is excellent. It would have received an A had it been graded. As Bonzo stresses at the end, the reason why wives do not have exchange-value in capitalist society has nothing to do with it whether wife-swapping is socially acceptable. We live in a society in which there is simply not a market for swapping wives. Joseph's private arrangement with his friend does not alter this social fact. On the other hand, many things which do have an exchange-value are not socially acceptable: there is a market for illegal drugs, for prostitution, etc.
