Question 222: How does the General Equivalent form of value express the labor represented in value not only negatively but also positively?
[133] Feministgal: Representation.   General Equivalent form of value can be said to represent value negatively because there must be a need from the trading partner. If there is no need from the trading partner then there is no desire to exchange commodities. However it is also represented positively by an exchange in commodities if the need for exchange does exist. The exchange value has the possibility to be higher if the trading partner values it as such.
Hans: In section 3 of chapter One, Marx is not discussing exchanges but the different steps in the evolution of money.
