Question 80: Marx says that as use-values commodities do not contain an atom of value. Would he also say that the labor process does not contain an atom of abstract labor?
[16] Shannon: Marx would not say that the labor process does not contain an atom of abstract labor. First let's understand what Marx means by abstract labor. He does discuss the quality of abstract labor as a function of the labor process. However abstract refers to the labor as an unspecific part of the process. It is giving definition to the difference between labors. By removing this word it means asking if the labor process does not contain any labors. Once there is understanding of all parts of the question it is not longer a question. Marx himself says all labors are part of the labor process. All labors can use their labor power in any aspect of the labor process. There would not be a labor process without the labors.
Hans: When you say “labors,” do you mean “laborers”?
You seem to have the right ideas in your head, and you even seem to be trying to explain them clearly, but you were not very successful at it this time. It is difficult to write clearly, just keep trying.
