Question 196: Aristotle wrote: ‘There can be no exchange without equality, and no equality without commensurability.’ What does he mean by this? What is the difference between equality and commensurability?
[538] Tinytim: In my final paragraph in answer to question 196, I stated, “Commensurability is two items being exchanged are relatively equal in value, and can be utilized by both parties. Cash for food at McDonalds is an example. McDonalds can utilize the cash, and you are willing to pay cash to satisfy your hunger.
This example doesn't fit properly because commensurability is stated from our readings as being qualitatively equal. A Honda Accord, and a Toyota Camery are two products that are considered qualitatively equal. It is ensuring that you receive the appropriate value for the amount of money you pay for it, or exchange it for.
Hans: You have to type in a whole answer, not just an addition to your in-class answer. Please do this so that I can give you a fair grade.
