Question 771: What is worse: the misery of idle impoverishment or the torture of work?
[718] Poppy: Misery.   I agree with [707]'s general thought on this matter, however I would not go as far to say that those that know they are being “exploited” by a capitalist are in torture. Marx was not going in that direction. Marx agrees that impoverishment is definitely worse than not being able to work, but explains that the impoverished that are not working, have experienced great life trials, like being an orphan, widowed, or injured while employed in the work force. He is not talking about the lazy or those that choose to be idle, he is talking about those that would like to work, but can't due to physical or mental restrictions, and they are the one's who are in misery only because they can not afford to provide the needs for themselves and/or family.
