Explanation of the Grade Summary on the Interactive Web Site
If the class participant has not yet submitted any answers,
but the test submission with Question number 998 or 999 was
submitted within the first two weeks of classes,
the grade tree looks as follows:
- Attendance, Deadlines, Peer Feedback: 1 ppoint
- Test Submission at Beginning of Semester: 1 ppoint
- Question 998 Message sent on 8/28 at 21:30 1 ppoint (deadline met)
This simply means that the participant has so far earned
1 ppoint (participation point). At the end of the Semester,
one needs at least 25 participation points, otherwise there will
be a grade penalty. Now assume the participant
submits a regular homework answer, for which he receives a B-.
Then the grade representation get the following additional entries:
- Homeworks, Exams, Termpaper: gpa 2.70, weight 10%
- Homeworks: gpa 2.70, weight 20%
- Answers of Study Questions: gpa 2.70, weight 20%

- Test Submission at Beginning of Semester: 1 ppoint
- Question 998 Message sent on 8/28 at 21:30 1 ppoint (deadline met)
- avg 1.00 days early for 1 submissions gives 1 ppoints

- R1 Question 8: deadline [18] 1 ppoint (deadline met)
Among the homeworks, this one submission is counted with a weight of
20%, since a minimum of 5 homework submissions is required during the
Semester. And in the combined grade for homeworks, exams, and the
termpaper, this submission is counted with a weight of 10%, since the homeworks
account for 50% of this combined grade.
This one message gave 3.25 additional participation points:
- 1 ppoint because this submission was submitted 1 day
before its deadline.
- 1 ppoint because two messages have to be submitted before
the first midterm. This is a double-weighted deadline,
meeting it gives two participation points. Since the one
submission gets you halfway there, this is 1 ppoint.
- 0.25 ppoints because four messages have to be submitted before
the second midterm. Since the one
submission gets you a quarter of the way there, this is 0.25 ppoints.
- 1 ppoint because everyone in shift 3 must make at least one submission before
September 28.
